all the ways...encaustic/collage (broken key, root, photo transfer) (2010)Working the key too hard in the lock one night resulted in me breaking the key, and locking myself out of the house. Something about this ‘trying too hard’ stuck with me, and eventually, this painting was the result. The tree and root mirror each other, and have been separated… there is a disconnect, which fits for this theme of ‘all the ways I try too hard’. 2012 - 2010
...where she's beenEncaustic/collage/photo transferThis piece touches on so many series it’s impossible to list them all… and is really a love song to the grid! I treated each square as an individual painting, and then pulled them together as a whole. The title comes from a black and white photo I collaged down of a woman walking – it grew into a horizontal story about … where she’s been. You can find it near the bottom middle-left area of the piece. 2009
honouring thoseencaustic/collage One of my very first encaustics, I started this in 2001, and recently re-worked it. Under the layers is an image of a mother & child - layering the landscape over them was a way to define them by place and time. 2008

blown awayencaustic/collage on cotton/wood Here is a poem about the dandelion losing it's 'hair' that my father wrote as a small boy... and it reminded me of some happy times we spent near the end of his life. This piece is about aging with grace, renewal and love. There are dandelions imbedded in the wax, as well as fabric, string, paper and a single seed. 2006
hold loosely, loosely heldEncaustic, collage and sewing on linen 34" x 34" This theme has been prevalent in my life for the last year, as my children grow up. The photo of my hands letting go into the unknown was the starting point. Rippling out from the whirlpool are the images and words that expand on this theme. There are many layers of sewing, collage and paint in this area. Thorns are imbedded in the wax and also sewn in - creating soft arcing circles, and then piercing that softness with a sharp inquiry. 2005
